Your Carbon Footprint Data Explained

Your Carbon Footprint Data Explained

We provide clear, science-backed CO₂e (carbon dioxide equivalent) data for the graphic production elements of your order. This allows you to understand the greenhouse gas emissions associated with your print materials and use the data in your sustainability reporting.

What Your Emissions Data Covers

The CO₂e data we provide relates solely to graphic production. It includes emissions from sourcing materials and production processes. It does not include emissions from hardware, transport, or other services. Specifically, it covers:

  • Raw materials – Emissions from sourcing and manufacturing the materials used in your graphics
  • Production processes – Emissions associated with printing, finishing, and other manufacturing steps.
  • Consumables – Emissions from inks, adhesives, and coatings used in production.

What Is Not Included?

  • Emissions from transporting the finished product to your location.
  • Emissions related to hardware, additional services, or product use and disposal.

What Is CO2e and why is it used?

CO₂e stands for carbon dioxide equivalent – a standardised metric used to express the climate impact of all greenhouse gases in terms of the amount of CO₂ that would have the same warming effect.

Why It Matters:

Not all greenhouse gases are equal. For example:
  • Methane (CH₄) has a global warming potential (GWP) of 25.
  • Nitrous oxide (N₂O) has a GWP of 298.
This means 1 tonne of N₂O has the same warming effect as 298 tonnes of CO₂. Using CO₂e allows us to express all emissions in a single, comparable figure, no matter which gases are emitted.
“We provide CO₂e figures that reflect the true carbon impact of graphic production — helping you make better decisions and back up your sustainability claims with evidence.”

How We Calculate Your CO₂e Data

Our automated system follows internationally recognised standards to ensure accurate and consistent reporting, including:

  • ISO14044, ISO14067, PAS 2050, and the GHG Protocol.
  • Industry-specific emission factors – matched to the materials and processes involved in your order.
  • Automated data processing – using machine learning to ensure reliable values across a wide range of graphic products.

How You Can Use This Data

  • Support internal or external sustainability reporting
  • Share emissions data transparently with your stakeholders
  • Compare product options and choose lower-emission alternatives
“Knowing your CO₂e emissions is the first step in reducing them. At XG, we give you the clarity and consistency to take control of your print sustainability.”

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn’t it include delivery?

Our reporting uses a cradle-to-production-gate approach, meaning emissions are calculated up to the point of dispatch. Delivery emissions vary significantly depending on distance and transport method. If needed, we can help estimate these separately.

How accurate is the data?

Our system uses trusted secondary data and machine learning to match product materials with verified emission factors. This allows for consistent reporting in line with international standards, and the emission factor database is regularly updated.

Can we compare these figures with those from another supplier?

Yes – but only if the same methodologies and boundaries are used. Check whether the other supplier follows ISO14067, PAS 2050, or the GHG Protocol for a fair comparison..

Can we claim our products are “low-carbon” based on this?

No. These figures provide emissions data but do not serve as certification. All environmental claims must comply with the UK Green Claims Code, which requires that:

  • Claims are clear and not misleading
  • Comparisons are like-for-like and verifiable
  • Broad terms like “eco-friendly” must be fully substantiated
