What you need to know: feather flags

Proudly wave your branding anywhere, anytime!

Feather flags have long been an incredibly popular product by XG Group. They are a quick and easy branding solution for events and exhibitions, taking moments to assemble and creating an impact on your displays. Available in an array of styles and sizes while completely customisable to your brand, we’ve seen first-hand how feather flags can lift your outdoor space. In our experience, a few questions spring to mind when looking to purchase a feather flag. Here are some of the most common FAQs around this popular product.

How much use can I really get out of a flag?

The lifespan of your feather flag depends on the material, storage, but most of all – usability! The environment and frequency you use your feather flag will largely determine its durability. For example, if you stored your feather flag in its travel bag and brought it out for events, you can get years of wear out of it. You can also replace the flag and pole, so if you want a refresh or new branding you save yourself the spend on a whole new flag. If you wanted to leave your flags outside as a permanent fixture, you’d expect to see wear after between 3-9 months depending on the season.
We offer an extensive range of sizes and shapes for your feather flag.

Durable Feather Flags with Long-Lasting GRP Poles

Using our GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) poles extends the lifespan of your feather flag. This high-quality alternative to aluminium poles is incredibly strong. It attaches to a specially engineered rotating spindle on the base of your flag, meaning it can rotate freely with minimal wear to the fitting. GRP folds down safely and can be stored with your flag, ready for your next event or exhibition.

Should I get single or double-sided?

We usually recommend a single-sided feather flag. This cost-effective solution uses a single fabric skin, making it lightweight and more accessible to flutter outdoors. Single-sided doesn’t mean one side is left blank, though! The fabric is transparent, so you will get a mirrored version of your design on the other side, which will aid in the visual pickup of your logo or branding.

Double-sided flags are a thicker option, using three layers of fabric instead of one. This uses two skins of fabric with your design on and one blocking liner so your designs stay unfiltered on either side. This naturally adds weight to the flag, which means its performance is reduced in outdoor conditions, so we recommend these for indoor use where they will hold their shape well.

What size should I get?

We offer an extensive range of sizes and shapes for your feather flag. The key thing to consider is your location for the flag – what distance you want your flag to be seen from, your company budget, what will be located around your flag for it to stand out, and the venue you will be showcasing at are all factors to consider when choosing the height of your flag. Different shapes can also cater to various heights. If you choose one of our concave, convex, angled or straight flags, these can be as tall as 5800mm. Our teardrop flags, popular for sporting events, come slightly shorter at a height of 5740mm maximum. The smallest option, the traditional sail flag, can reach up to 5160mm.

What base should I use?

Choosing the right base for your feather flag depends on where you plan to use it. We offer a variety of base options to suit different environments and surfaces:

  • Cross Base: This base is ideal for indoor use or flat surfaces like exhibition halls or shopping centres. It provides stability and can be weighted with a water bag for extra support.
  • Ground Spike: This is perfect for outdoor settings where the flag will be placed on soft ground, such as grass or soil. The spike anchors the flag securely in place, even in windy conditions.
  • Drive-On Base: Great for outdoor events like car shows, this base allows you to park a vehicle on top, using the car’s weight to hold the flag in place.
  • Water Base: This versatile option can be filled with water or sand for extra weight. It works well on hard, flat surfaces and is commonly used for outdoor events with pedestrian traffic.

Selecting the right base ensures that your flag remains stable, visible, and impactful regardless of the location or weather conditions. To view the full range of base options, visit our feather flag product page.
