Case Study: Internal Factory Branding at Alpine F1 Team’s Enstone Base

Like many Formula 1 teams, Alpine F1 Team has evolved through multiple identities since its origins as Toleman in 1981, becoming Benetton in 1986, Renault F1 Team in 2002, Lotus branding from 2011 to 2015, returning to Renault in 2016, and rebranding as Alpine in 2021. The Enstone facility has been home to the operation since 1992 and carries a rich motorsport heritage, including multiple world championships. These include Michael Schumacher’s Drivers’ titles in 1994 and 1995, Fernando Alonso’s in 2005 and 2006, and Constructors’ Championships in 1995, 2005 and 2006.

“WE ARE ENSTONE”.

As part of developing a home identity for the factory, the Enstone-based outfit recently launched an internal branding project centred around the message “WE ARE ENSTONE.”. Designed to be read as both We Are Enstone and We Are One, this initiative celebrates the team’s achievements while creating a unifying message that gives the hard-working team members an identity that transcends the ever-changing public team names. The branding features imagery of pivotal moments in the team’s history and timeline graphics that incorporate coloured squares representing historic team liveries.
Bringing “WE ARE ENSTONE” to Life Inside Alpine’s F1 Factory

XG | Experts in Graphics’ Role

We were involved at a very early stage, enabling us to advise on the best approach for each element of the branding. Our solutions were tailored to suit each application, taking into account not only the visual impact but also the ability to update or refresh graphics with minimal disruption. Large wall areas were a key focus, with different methods chosen based on the specific requirements and surfaces involved.

For some walls, we produced one-piece graphic wallpaper using tear-resistant grey-back polycanvas available up to 5 m wide. This was the ideal choice where wall layouts made systems such as tuck-in or TFS unsuitable, including a 16 m × 2 m wall that also featured 1100 mm-high 5mm Perspex letters saying “WE ARE ENSTONE.” with stand-offs installed over the top.

Other large walls, along with the corridor displays, were produced using TFS systems, which allow individual panels to be updated or swapped with ease. The corridors carry a series of striking images, each telling part of the Enstone story, while the larger TFS wall areas create visual focal points that can evolve over time.

In addition, we used DecorTrack semi-permanent wall systems with stretch-and-tuck fabric graphics for areas that required flexibility and quick turnaround for design changes. Department door signs were produced from two-layer Perspex with direct print and stand-offs for a clean, professional finish. We also installed several self-adhesive timeline graphics placed strategically throughout the factory.

Collaboration and Delivery

Working closely with the Alpine Creative Team, XG recommended materials and production methods, managed all production in-house, and oversaw the installation process from start to finish. This ensured consistency, budget control, and delivery with Xtreme efficiency and attention to detail.

With XG’s own motorsport heritage, we were proud to contribute to a project that celebrates the Enstone team’s championship-winning heritage from past eras and strengthens the sense of unity within the factory.
